Thank You, Americans reframes a historic milestone through a modern lens of partnership, bringing the EU–U.S. relationship into the present through shared ideas, culture, and innovation.

At its core, the campaign turns gratitude into a storytelling platform. Each execution highlights what’s been exchanged between both sides — from cultural movements to shared values — positioning the relationship as a two-way dialogue, not a one-sided tribute.

The system was built to scale across a wide range of storytelling, while still feeling consistent, approachable, and recognizably EU — with Canva playing a key role in how that system was designed and deployed.

The campaign expands across three layers:

  • A universal “Thank You” expressed through bold messaging across OOH, social, and digital
  • Localized stories connecting each EU country to a real U.S. counterpart — from Paris, France to Paris, Ohio
  • A July 4th series where each country “brings a cake,” turning national desserts into a playful celebration of unity

Together, the system balances sincerity with lightness, creating a campaign that feels both diplomatic and human.

Objective

The European Union needed a campaign that could celebrate America’s 250th anniversary while reinforcing the EU–U.S. relationship as active, relevant, and mutually influential. The work had to feel unified at scale, but flexible enough to highlight each of the 27 member states individually across multiple channels.

My Role

Lead Art Director and designer from concept through execution. Led the development of the winning idea and built the visual system that carries across all campaign touchpoints. Defined the art direction, including the use of line illustration overlays, color treatments, and layout frameworks to unify historic and modern imagery. Designed and executed assets across OOH, social, and digital, while establishing a scalable system that allowed 27 unique country stories to feel cohesive within a single campaign.
